Allows a parent or person with lawful custody to surrender a baby legally, confidentially and safely surrender their baby within 3 days of birth, without fear of arrest or prosecution for child abandonment. This law allows for at least a 14-day cooling off period, which begins the day the child is voluntarily surrendered. During this period, the person who surrendered the child can call EHSD and present the uniquely coded identification bracelet that was provided at the time of the safe surrender. At that time the persons situation will be assessed. Most hospitals, health centers and fire stations are designated sites. Website has list of designated sites.
