Description
Operates 365 days a year with 6 full time investigators who are supported by professional staff. Serves as the investigative unit responsible for determining the cause and manner of death on all deaths in Contra Costa County. Medicolegal death investigations are conducted throughout the county on homicides, suicides, accidents, suspicious and unexpected deaths. Other duties include, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal property, collection of evidence, processing death certificates and overseeing indigent burials.

Provides oversight of all Office of the Sheriff operations, including Coroner's Office, detention facilities, patrol services for unincorporated Contra Costa County, follow-up of felony and misdemeanor crimes committed in the County, oversees the County's Office of Emergency Services, and other related law enforcement and homeland security services. Also provides drop-off for unused/expired medications.
