Description
Offers assistance is to help prevent homelessness for households at immediate risk of becoming homeless, once every two years. Provides short term financial assistance for families and individuals facing a housing crisis through no fault of their own. Applicants must be able to maintain their housing expenses after the financial support is provided. Clients who are on a fixed income and are not able to meet monthly rent obligations, may not be eligible for program to assist with rent arrears. Individuals or household's who receive TANF/CAlWORKs, IHSS, CAPI, or ILSP, or other EHSD program benefit, must request financial assistance through their case worker. Offers one month rent and/or deposit assistance to rehouse homeless individuals through ESG funds. Due to program limitations, assistance is not guaranteed and limited funds for Pittsburg, Concord, Antioch, and Walnut Creek. Program is not able to provide assistance for rent in advance or future rent. Effective immediately, participants who receive grants from SHELTER, Inc. cannot re-apply for assistance for 2 years. Limited amount of funds for utilities and deposit assistance.No back-rent assistance for: Subsidized rent (for example: Section 8), Subleasing (renting a place from a renter), Room rental (living at the same house as the landlord) or SLE.

Provides programs to help homeless Contra Costa residents obtain and maintain permanent housing, promote innovative homeless prevention preograms, increase economic self sufficiency and enhance enhance human dignity. Establishes and operates interim housing, transitional housing and long-term affordable housing, including supportive services and special needs population services. Homeless Prevention Program provides financial assistance for move-in costs, and rent and mortgages in arrears. Education and information is given to the community about homelessness, and the specific issues and needs of homeless people. Utilizes volunteers and accept donations of money, furniture and household articles (with some limitations).
