Domestic violence victims regardless of marital status or whether child custody/visitation orders needed. No income limits apply and immigration status not required.

Provides various legal services via remote advocacy. Housing, DV Restraining Order and Consumer clinics are available via remote clinics. Provides free civil legal advice, counsel and representation to low-income individuals in four areas: Housing, Public Benefits, Family Law for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and Consumer. Housing issues include: public, subsidized (including Section 8 and other HUD subsidized projects) and private housing, fair housing and housing discrimination, housing conditions, rent control, eviction defense, lock-outs and utility shutoffs, residential hotels. Family law issues include temporary restraining orders (TROs), divorce, legal separation or annulments, child or spousal support, custody and visitation orders, battered spouse waivers, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) enforcement, immigration issues faced by domestic violence survivors. Public benefits issues include CalWORKs, SSDI (Social Security Disability Benefits), SSI, Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants, Food Stamps, GA, and other county-specific programs. Bay Area Legal Aid does not handle criminal matters. Provides eviction prevention legal counseling to individuals who are unable to pay their rent.
