Contra Costa County
Provides probate conservatorship and Lanterman Petris Short (LPS) conservatorship services as needed. Probate conservatorship services, for individuals unable to manage their personal affairs and provide for their daily living needs, must be submitted in writing by completing the Public Guardian referral packet. Lanterman Petris Short mental health conservatorship services authorizes psychiatric care/treatment if an individual is gravely disabled due to mental illness and is refusing voluntary psychiatric treatment. Ultimate determination requires a comprehensive investigation, a Superior Court order and may require a Superior Court trial. Call or specifics of either services. LPS referrals must come from an acute psychiatric facility.
