Provides free, confidential, one-on-one basic instruction in reading, writing, and spelling to adults who can converse in English. Instruction is provided by trained volunteers. Adult learner/tutor pairs meet twice a week, for an hour and a half each time at libraries or other public locations throughout Contra Costa County.

Provides public library services at 26 branches including a diverse selection of lendable materials including, books, eBooks, eAudiobooks, and DVD's. Branch libraries offer a variety of programs that encourage literacy for all ages, celebrate the arts & culture, feature local and nationally recognized authors and other speakers and performers. Other free programs and events include STEM (science-technology-engineering-art-math), performers, crafts, reading with dogs, movies, homework help, book clubs and games.
