Provides free legal services for Contra Costa seniors age 60+ including advice, counsel and representation in civil legal matters, such as: elder abuse, consumer matters, housing, income maintenance as well as advance health care directives and durable power of attorney. Special Free Wills Clinic and Consult-an-Attorney Programs conducted at selected Senior Centers throughout the County; Pro Bono Program conducted to assist in placing eligible clients with private attorneys where possible. Contra Costa Senior Legal Services does not provide assistance in Criminal Law, Family Law (with the exception of elder abuse), Immigration Law, Personal Injury, Probate or Tax matters. Provides legal information and provides presentations to community groups Advance Health Care Directives, Powers of Attorney, and Prevention of Elder Abuse.

Provides services for adults, ages 18 to 65, with a wide range of physical, intellectual, or other developmental disabilities including a self-employment training program, an adult development center, a technology center with assistive technology, and other programs to assist participants in reaching their highest potential, respecting their choices as adults, protecting their rights and interests, teaching advocacy and self-help skills, offering moral support to consumers and their families and raising community awareness and enlisting support.

Provides free, confidential, one-on-one basic instruction in reading, writing, and spelling to adults who can converse in English. Instruction is provided by trained volunteers. Adult learner/tutor pairs meet twice a week, for an hour and a half each time at libraries or other public locations throughout Contra Costa County. Trains volunteer tutors three times per year. Offers a variety of exercise/fitness classes for adults. Classes include, yoga, tai chi, zumba, pilates, weight training, including meditation. Classes may fill up fast or may be cancelled depending on registration.

This service is available to any private, public, home, or center based preschool or day care in Contra Costa County. Services are free of charge for all families and schools.

Provides information, referrals, assistance, understanding and hope to persons of all ages with disabilities as well as elderly individuals for the purpose of helping them to live as independently as possible. Services include: advocacy, benefits assistance, housing assistance, employment services, peer counseling services, assistance with independent educational planning (IEPs for school-aged youth), life skills, ADA information, public & businesses education. Referrals and resources are provided for: assistive technology, agencies serving the disabled, transportation, and youth programs. Advocacy services to increase access to services, benefits, and other social services and advising clients regarding their rights. Housing referral services assist clients by maintaining a registry of accessible, adaptable, affordable apartments and houses. Peer counseling is available to disabled individuals, their families, and friends. In depth individual skills development can be provided within the peer-counseling group or on a one-to-one basis. A small lending library of equipment is available.

Provides adoption referral service for those who need to place or want to adopt a dog and/or a cat. Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), provides low-cost veterinary clinic referrals, pet-friendly rentals list. Offers advice and referrals to low-cost veterinarians. Offers low-income families with supplementary pet food. CCHS does not handle lost/found animals, pick up stray animals or investigate cases of abuse & neglect.

Acts as the liaison between a pregnant woman and the services needed to provide the child a healthy start and the mother a healthy pregnancy. Coordinates initial prenatal appointment and referrals to programs for pregnant women i.e. WIC. Makes referrals as needed, offers genetic counseling, prenatal testing, brief counseling on substance abuse issues and community outreach.

Provides services across four areas (income, assets, wellness, and social connections) to low-income parents and those with a history of incarceration or probation seeking coaching, workshops, and assistance in obtaining employment, launching a career, building a budget, repairing credit, resolving legal issues, applying for public benefits, and becoming a better parent or neighbor. Additional services include, job readiness placement, on-the-job training, legal services addressing barriers to employment, financial education, debt repayment guidance, behavioral health services and referral, health education workshops, health insurance enrollment and navigation as well as social connections to support in building and maintaining a professional network.

Provides a wide range of medical services for individuals at no cost for those without health insurance including primary care and limited physicals, treatment for minor illnesses or injuries, limited medications, non-emergency care requiring treatment from a physician or nurse, information and referral. Offers women's clinic including free pap-smears and breast exams as well as free mammogram referrals. Provides flu vaccines and Covid-19 vaccines including boosters. Transportation to the mobile clinics may be available to patients who reside in area far from the mobile clinics.

Provides private and group music and dance instruction, theater, film and video, and summer programs, and pre-k program family art workshops.

Provides a maximum-security detention facility, for juvenile clients up to age 18. Residents are classified and assigned to housing units based on gender, age, offense, and special needs. Contra Costa Office of Education operates McKinley School on site.

Offers one-to-one behavioral intervention mental health program. Works in collaboration with children, youth, parents, caregivers, foster parents, group home staff and school personnel to reduce and manage challenging behaviors, as well as strategies and skills to help child and youth in their current environment. Provides children and youth transition assistance to lower levels of care.

Provides counseling and police escorts to sexually abused victims through: 24-hour crisis line counseling, in-person support, including accompaniment to hospitals, police interviews, and legal proceedings.

Operates 365 days a year with 6 full time investigators who are supported by professional staff. Serves as the investigative unit responsible for determining the cause and manner of death on all deaths in Contra Costa County. Medicolegal death investigations are conducted throughout the county on homicides, suicides, accidents, suspicious and unexpected deaths. Other duties include, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal property, collection of evidence, processing death certificates and overseeing indigent burials.

Provides food and clothing assistance to clients every 6 months.

Provides needs based services which may include; utility and financial assistance, and vouchers for clothing that can be used in lieu of cash at St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores for discounted clothing and furniture. All services are based on fund availability.

Offers a referral service which includes detoxification, basic outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, recovery residences (sober living homes) and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) including methadone.
