Arranges and pays for medical care, equipment, and rehabilitation for eligible children and youth up to age 21 who have eligible medical conditions (such as congenital heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, cancers, tumors, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, thyroid problems, PKU, or diabetes that is difficult to control, serious kidney problems, liver problems such as biliary atresia, cleft lip/palate, spina bifida, eye problems leading to loss of vision such as glaucoma and cataracts, and hearing loss, cerebral palsy, uncontrolled epilepsy/seizures, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular dystrophy, HIV infection, severe head, brain or spinal cord injuries, and severe burns, disabling injuries and poisonings requiring inpatient hospital treatment, complications of premature birth requiring an intensive level of care, severe hemangioma, severely crooked teeth) and whose families are unable to pay for all or part of their care.
