Serves as the investigative unit responsible for determining the cause and manner of death on all deaths in Contra Costa County. Medicolegal death investigations are conducted throughout the county on homicides, suicides, accidents, suspicious and unexpected deaths. Other duties include, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal property, collection of evidence, processing death certificates and overseeing indigent burials.
