Provides temporary safe homes where parents may voluntarily have their children cared for during a family crisis. Crisis situations may include homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, drug addiction, medical illness, hospitalization, or any other crisis circumstance that makes it difficult for the parents to care for their children. The staff offers support by helping new and previously helped clients find needed resources for their families. Safe Refuge for Children + Families is a faith-based organization that recruits its volunteers through churches. These local churches support the families hosting the children of the families in crisis. The Safe Refuge volunteer host families are screened (background checks, home studies, training, etc.) and approved to be safe. This is a voluntary program and the families in crisis always retain all of their parental rights and custody.

Provides basic needs where homeless individuals can have access to meals, mailbox, showers, and phones. Offers case management services and housing navigation for homeless adults, transitional aged youth and families.

Provides long term progressive program for single women or mothers with children. Clients may stay up to one year, time may be extended, program is Christian oriented (non-denominational) counseling referrals and spiritual guidance available for clients.

Offers a respite care program for homeless adults who are discharging from local hospitals and require medical stabilization services. Respite care refers to recuperative services for those homeless persons who may not meet medical criteria for hospitalization, but who are too sick or medically vulnerable to reside in an emergency shelter and cannot be returned to the streets. Clients are ONLY admitted when discharged from a hospital; walk-ins are not accepted.

Provides shelter for Contra Costa homeless families (men and women) WITH dependent children. Shelter is located at various churches; locations rotate from Orinda on the west to Danville on the south to Antioch on the East/North. Shelter will close for the season on June 2026.

Line is open to anyone in a threatening or abusive environment and who are not in immediate physical danger. Operates a restraining order clinic and a food pantry for needy families. Provides temporary shelter for homeless families in a safe, supportive environment including a shelter for single fathers with kids.

Provides emergency shelter and interim, non-congregate housing for single adults. In addition to providing basic needs of shelter, shower, food, and clothing, the program includes care coordination and housing location services assisting residents with move-in and short term rental assistance where appropriate. In addition to housing, employment, and clinical support services, the program offers on-site health care services provided by the county and linkages to legal aid and other social and human resource services.
