Provides assistance to previously incarcerated individuals to apply for public benefits, housing, employment, and medical appointments within a community medical clinic named Transitions Clinic.

Provides a broad range of outpatient, psychotherapy services to adults, facing moderate to severe psychiatric disabilities. Issues include, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, bipolar, anxiety, relationship conflict, prescription management, and family communication. Services are offered in weekly individual or group therapy sessions.

Provides needs based services which may include; utility and financial assistance, and vouchers for clothing that can be used in lieu of cash at St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores for discounted clothing and furniture.

Provides 24-hour non-medical detoxification for women. Program includes a 30-90 day residential substance abuse treatment, an ongoing alcohol recovery program, one-on-one planning for recovery from alcohol and drug problems, and AA/NA meetings. The center is licensed and certified by the State of California, offering a social model alcohol detoxification program. Provides residential treatment program for women and pregnant women in the first two trimesters of pregnancy with alcohol and drug-related problems and education and supportive recovery services. Assists in filing petitions by refugees or asylees who are seeking to obtain derivative refugee status for their spouses and unmarried children younger than age 21. Petitions must be filed within two years of the arrival of the petitioner in the United States (i.e., within two years of gaining refugee or asylee status), and evidence substantiating spousal and/or family relationships must be filed. Does not assist newly citizens petition for family members.

Helps families and individuals apply for CalFresh, a public benefit program formerly known as Food Stamps. Educates families on the eligibility process and helps them navigate the application. Clients can call to complete application by phone.

Collects new toys for needy children in the community; toys are distributed through nonprofit agencies. Any new unwrapped toys may be dropped off year-round at a local fire station or brought to the United States Marine Corps Reserve Unit - 3225 Willow Pass Road in Concord. In December, drop-off points throughout the county will be announced on the website.

Assists individuals with disabilities obtain and retain employment and maximize their ability to live independently in their communities by providing vocational rehabilitation services to eligible individuals and ADA technical assistance. Collaborates with local county resources to provide information and referral services to assist individuals with disabilities live active, independent lives. Supports students with disabilities, including justice involved and foster youth, in reaching their vocational goals.

Provides information on ballot initiatives, candidate filing, and voter registration; certifies the official lists of candidates to determining which types of voting systems are acceptable for use in California; advises candidates and local elections officials on the qualifications and requirements for running for office, provides guidance on choosing acceptable candidate ballot designations, and determines the order of the candidates on the ballot; Elections Division tracks and certifies ballot initiatives. If a state measure goes on the ballot, the Elections Division has verified that it has met the requirements for placement, coordinates the tabulation of the votes from each county on election night. Also has a comprehensive Voter Registration and Outreach Team that prints registration forms, encourages registration and voter turnout, and produces several voter information publications.

Provides help with problems such as minimum wage and overtime violations, failure to pay for work performed, or refusal to grant meal and rest breaks. Also provides counsel to clients regarding workplace discrimination based upon race, national origin, gender, pregnancy, disability, language proficiency and immigration status, and offers information regarding unemployment compensation filings and appeals. People in need of assistance may call to make an appointment. Some in person and virtual appointments available.

Provides basic needs where homeless individuals can have access to meals, mailbox, showers, and phones. Offers case management services and housing navigation for homeless adults, transitional aged youth and families.

Accepts donations and sells: clothing, collectibles, jewelry, housewares, linens, and books at greatly reduced prices. All work is performed by volunteers. Proceeds support the Contra Costa Crisis Center.

Provides treatment for people who want to stop using opioids such as heroin, prescription painkillers like oxycodone, and similar drugs. Program patients are prescribed a medicine, buprenorphine (Suboxone) that reduces craving and withdrawal symptoms. Included services are group therapy and support from a medical team that includes doctors, registered nurses, mental health counselors and community health workers.

Offers tutor volunteer opportunities for English speaking adults who would like to help ESL (English as a second language) adults in the community to read, write and speak English. The DVLC workshop provides training, teaching materials (a nominal fee) plus ongoing support to those who complete the 2-day workshop. DVLC produces a quarterly newsletter and get-together events throughout the year. Tutor training workshops are held twice a year in the spring and in the fall.
